CONTEMPORARY ENGLISH VERSION: "The more you know, the more you hurt; the more you understand, the more you suffer."
WISDOM in Greek is defined as, skill (in war), wisdom (in administration), shrewdness, wisdom, prudence (in religious affairs), wisdom (ethical and religious).
KNOWLEDGE in Greek is defined as, knowledge, perception, skill, discernment, understanding, wisdom.
To better understand the meaning of Ecclesiastes1:18, we can look to 2 Peter 3:18... "But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen."
And also to Collosians 1:9... "For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
The wisdom of the world and of human reasoning does not provide lasting eternal understanding of the meaning of life and the Great Plan for mankind. Without true knowledge, there is a lot of sorrow, because there is no hope.
