THE TRUTH BEHIND THE SCRIPTURE
This is one of those scriptures that needs to be memorized. We must have such great confidence in God and his deliverance that our minds are completely free from anxiety. Our dependence on Him keeps us calm. The word for supplication indicates a way of manner of prayer which arises from the sense of "need," or "want" - from δέομαι deomai, "to want, to need." God does not need to be told about our needs, He already knows, but he does require that we come and express them to him. "Thus saith the Lord God, I will yet for this be inquired of by the house of Israel to do it for them." -Ezekiel 36:37
We are to petition God, which is defined as "make or present a formal request to (an authority) with respect to a particular cause". Our thanksgiving must be connected with prayer. When we give a gift or service to help someone, we always appreciate a "thank you". Ingratitude has a tendency to destroy any initiative for future help or gifts.

KNOWN...To make known, declare, know, discover. From a derivative of ginosko; to make known; subjectively, to know.
