THE TRUTH BEHIND THE SCRIPTURE
1 Corinthians 13, known as the Love Chapter, if followed, would change the world as it is being lived today.
What is love?
Love suffers long...From the same as makrothumos; to be long-spirited, i.e. forbearing or patient.
Love is kind...To be kind (full of service to others), gentle. Middle voice from chrestos; to show oneself useful, i.e. Act benevolently.
Love does not envy...From zelos; to have warmth of feeling for or against.
Love does not parade itself...To boast, vaunt myself. Middle voice from perperos; to boast.
Love is not puffed up...From phusis in the primary sense of blowing; to inflate, i.e. make proud.
Love does not behave rudely...From askemon; to be unbecoming.
Love does not seek its own...To seek, search for, desire, require, demand. Of uncertain affinity; to seek; specially, to worship, or to plot.
Love is not provoked...To arouse anger, provoke, irritate. From para and a derivative of oxus; to sharpen alongside, i.e. to exasperate.
Love thinks no evil...The key to understanding this is to know what think means...To reckon, count, charge with; reason, decide, conclude; think, suppose. The point is we are not impute motives of other people, that is, evil...Bad, evil, in the widest sense. Apparently a primary word; worthless, i.e. depraved, or injurious.
A way of looking at the meaning of "think no evil" is we should consider one innocent until proven guilty, not supposing some evil has been committed with no evidence to support the charge. Refrain from having an accusative personality.
