HE IS A SHIELD -Proverbs 30:5
THE TRUTH BEHIND THE SCRIPTURE
Every word of God is PURE which in Hebrew means to smelt, refine, to test (and prove true). Every word of God is “pure,” i.e., tested and proved in the furnace of experience.
"The words of the LORD are pure words, Like silver tried in a furnace of earth, Purified seven times". -Psalm 12:6
BENSON COMMENTARY: Without the least mixture of falsehood, and therefore shall be infallibly fulfilled. Men often speak rashly, and promise what they cannot perform, and deceitfully, what they never intend to perform. But God’s words are different; they are pure from all manner of dross; from all folly, or fraud, or uncertainty.
These pure words from God are there to protect us from spiritual harm acting as a SHIELD, a buckler. Physically this is a small shield intended to parry blows or thrusts, placed on the arm, but not so large as to cover the body. This shield, in a spiritual sense, is very movable in order to block the spiritual blows.
We must place our TRUST in God, which in Hebrew is to seek refuge, flee for protection, to put trust in (God) and confide or hope in (God).
